The Dutch are to be congratulated.

A little video – taken by my wee camera, from the footpath on a 2 lane only bridge at New Gracht 2 minutes from my front door. Just so you will know just how important bikes are to the Dutch.

Note the police car, the concentration and calmness of the car drivers, the dog on a lead, boy with crutches and others with cell phones. Also note the age range of the cyclists. Little kids to big kids to much older kids in their 80′s maybe.

The bikes have right of way over all.

Note on the video that the bike lane is to the left of the dotted white line on the left side. These cyclists are all riding from the bike lane and wide road onto a two lane bridge (that is one lane each way), and you will notice that most ride from the bike lane to the road without checking to see if there is a car or a bus or a truck or whatever drifting closer.

They know you will not hit them!

Could you handle that? The pressure of being a patient 4 wheeled motorised vehicle driver, well could you??
